The Motivational Enhancement Track (MET) Program

For some of our SACPA clients, the period between assessment of level-of-care needs and intake into a treatment program can be a very difficult time. Clients may experience feelings of confusion, doubt, fear, and apprehension about their past, present, and immediate future. The Motivational Enhancement Track (MET) Program was created to serve clients during this often-difficult transitional stage.

The MET Program offers:

  • Support for the transition from Criminal Justice proceedings to entry into treatment;
  • Connection to a service provider from Santa Clara Valley Health & Hospital System’s Department of Alcohol & Drug Services during a waiting period for placement in a primary treatment facility;
  • Continuity of referrals, provision of resources and positive reinforcement for future treatment activities.
  • A curriculum proven to motivate the client for treatment and to address the identification, recognition, and management of various patterns of denial commonly present in early-treatment situations.
  • A certificate of completion for attending a total of six group sessions.

The MET Program consists of six two-hour weekly sessions in a small-group format.  The program utilizes the Gorski/CENAPS Denial Management Curriculum along with other effective motivational counseling techniques.  The first three weeks focus on helping clients recognize and identify denial patterns they may be using as they await their next treatment phase. In the remaining weeks, clients work on personalizing and managing their denial patterns as they enter primary treatment.  Our group facilitators collect data and document clients’ ongoing communication with their next treatment facility and refer clients to SACPA Ancillary Services, when appropriate.

Our clients say:

  • “I’m so glad to have someplace to come to while I wait for my outpatient program.”
  • “You’ve helped me stay on track and given me the hope that this will work this time.”
  • “It feels great getting to know others who are facing the same things.…”
