Workshop Series I - Blueprint Program Focus: Description of Key Points
A1. Implementing Model Programs: Promise and Practice - Delbert
Elliott, PhD bio
This workshop will tackle the difficult issues surrounding the implementation
of good prevention and intervention programs in local communities. Issues
include: how to select the best available program for your community,
developing the capacity to implement programs successfully, local adaptation
vs. program fidelity, and how to sustain local programs over time.
A2. Nurse-Family Partnership - Matthew
Buhr-Vogt, MPH bio
Nurse-home visitation is a program that sends nurses to homes of pregnant
women who are predisposed to infant health and developmental problems
in order to improve parent and child outcomes. Home visiting also promotes
the cognitive and social-emotional development of the children, and
provides general support and parenting skills to the parents.
A3. Midwestern Prevention Project - Mary
Ann Pentz, PhD bio
The community-based program targets adolescent drug use. The program
uses five intervention strategies designed to combat the community influences
on drug us: mass media, school, parent, community organization, and
health policy change. The primary intervention channel is the school.
A4. Integrating Assets Approach into Programs - Akemi Flynn,
MSW bio
The research-based framework of 40 developmental assets is becoming
increasingly known and supported throughout Santa Clara County by policy
makers, program providers and community members concerned about the
healthy development of child and youth. Many people are still wondering
how to put the asset approach into action and how the asset approach
relates to best practice models in the prevention field. In this session
participants will learn about the research-based developmental assets
framework; about results of the developmental assets survey of Santa
Clara County youth; how the asset approach is consistent with various
Blueprint best practice models; and how the asset approach can be integrated
into their existing programs to enhance planning, implementation, evaluation
and resource development.
